The Lost For Words? PARENT PAGES are designed to offer links to information, advice and support which may allow parents to develop the skills necessary to cope with a challenging family situation.
Also the PARENT PAGES can direct parents seeking to support a child or young person who is suffering in some way to a number of specific links relating to different family problems.
In the UK, about 20 per cent of people aged between 16 and 24 are thought to have a significant
emotional mental health problems.
At least 2 per cent of children under 12 years old struggle with significant depression, and by teenage years
this has risen to five per cent - that's at least one depressed child in every classroom.
Many children and young people deal regularly with many problems in and out of the home, such as family conflict, abuse, bullying, study-stress, self-image, sexuality, bereavement, the effects of poverty, and more. Growing up can feel like a very VULNERABLE time and young people can start to experience mental health problems.
As a parent you want the best for your child so facing these issues can make you feel vulnerable too. Parenting can be tough and we all need support sometimes to deal with the challenges of raising children and young people. If you are a parent of any age, suffering emotionally in any way, or you are trying to support a child or young person who needs help, there are people you can talk to in confidence and who could help you. The information contained here is drawn from a variety of websites to try to summarise some of the advice available.
